Well here we are the beginning...of what....an adventure or as some would say just pure craziness. Having completed my first "ultra" 50k last year I am now setting my goal bigger, ......drum roll please.....of course 100 miles. Yes just like everyone else I want to say I have completed a "ULTRA".
It is quite humorous how myself like many others still view my trail running career unsubstantial despite the fact that last year alone I completed 50k three times at races including Sulpher Springs, 6 hours of Mansfield, and Pick Your Poison. On top of that I also completed two crazy tough trail races in Nova Scotia including the Sonufa Gunofa Run and the Cuddly Coyote. Training included a couple of 50k plus runs on the Bruce trail which is also no easy task.
Still something is missing. The Belt Buckle! Really it is kind of pathetic that something so meaningless and materialistic would influence my life and create such a passion, but it does. My theory is if others have conquered this distance so shall I.
This is where the adventure begins. It is nearing winter which of course means lots of snow here where I will be training in the Borden, ON region. Challenges on mileage are a given so therefore I plan on being pretty diverse in my training. One thing I have learned in the short year of training for ultras is that over training is your biggest enemy, cause it always leads to injury.
Pretty much this blog is going to be an online diary to keep me honest during my training and also to share my trials and tribulations along the way. Hope you all enjoy. Plus I am going to be GoPro videoing lots of my adventures so be sure to check it out.
